Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The governor announced his decision on [date] following a high-level meeting with stakeholders from the state, shortly after the Supreme Court judgment on the PDP leadership crisis.
Governor Mohammed described the situation within the PDP as complex and uncertain, pointing out that efforts to restore stability in the party had failed to yield results. According to him, the apex court nullified parallel conventions conducted by rival factions, leaving both sides without legal standing. He said the development created a leadership vacuum, making it difficult for the party to move forward effectively.
He stated that the decision to leave the PDP was taken after wide consultations with political leaders and stakeholders across the country. While expressing gratitude to the PDP for contributing significantly to his political journey, the governor described the move to the APM as a “strategic repositioning” aimed at securing political victory and ensuring continuity in governance.
Governor Mohammed said the APM provides a credible and legally stable platform for political activities.
