Turaki-Led PDP Faction Announces 103rd NEC Meeting Amid Leadership Dispute

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) associated with Tanimu Turaki has announced plans to convene the party’s 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Monday, May 4, 2026.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja and signed by members of the NEC.

The development comes shortly after another group within the party, led by AbdulRahman Mohammed and supported by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, addressed the implications of a recent Supreme Court judgment delivered on April 30, 2026.

The AbdulRahman Mohammed-led group had stated on May 1, 2026, at a press conference held at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza in Abuja, that the ruling did not result in any leadership vacuum. The group also rejected suggestions of suspensions, expulsions, or changes in leadership, describing such claims as “deliberate distortions.”

Speaking on behalf of the Mohammed-led group, the National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, said: “Let it be clear and unambiguous that the Supreme Court judgment of yesterday only nullified the illegal Ibadan ‘Convention’ and dismissed the appeal filed by the Turaki-led purported National Working Committee for lacking in merit.”

He further maintained that issues relating to the suspension or expulsion of party officials were not part of the matters determined in the case.

Meanwhile, the Turaki-led group, in its statement announcing the NEC meeting, cited a resolution signed by two-thirds of NEC members pursuant to Section 31 of the PDP Constitution. The meeting is scheduled to hold at 2:00 pm, and attendance is strictly limited to statutory members of the NEC, including PDP state governors, members of the National Assembly from the PDP caucus, members of the Board of Trustees (BoT), state chairmen, national ex-officio members, former NWC members, former governors, and principal officers of the National Assembly.

The statement concluded: “NEC remains dedicated to the stability, unity and success of the PDP guided by the principles of internal democracy, party discipline, inclusivity of members and the pursuit of the wellbeing of the Nigerian people as we march to victory in the 2027 general elections.”
