ABUJA — Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has led fresh diplomatic efforts to strengthen cooperation with Libya on migration management and regional security.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu held a bilateral meeting with Libya’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Taher Elbaour, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to deeper collaboration on key security and humanitarian issues, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed by its Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.
At the talks, the minister emphasised the need for coordinated action to address irregular migration, describing it as a shared challenge requiring stronger regional cooperation.
She also highlighted the importance of structured arrangements for the transfer of prisoners between both countries as part of broader justice and humanitarian efforts.
The discussions further focused on the growing security challenges in the Sahel region, with Odumegwu-Ojukwu stressing the urgency of joint strategies to promote peace and stability across the region.
Both sides agreed to enhance diplomatic engagement and strengthen collaboration to advance shared security and humanitarian objectives.
The meeting underscores Nigeria’s continued push for stronger regional partnerships in tackling migration and security challenges across Africa.
