ABUJA — Nigeria and Tunisia have moved to strengthen bilateral relations with a focus on security cooperation, diplomatic engagement and sustainable development priorities.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, held talks with Tunisia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, on the margins of the 49th Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed by its Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.
Both ministers agreed to enhance political and diplomatic relations through increased engagement, including exchange programmes for young diplomats and newly appointed ambassadors.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu emphasised the importance of sustained diplomatic interaction in strengthening ties between both countries and building institutional capacity.
The talks also explored joint efforts to address insurgency and other security challenges affecting the region, with both sides stressing the need for closer cooperation.
In addition, discussions covered collaboration in water, food and energy security as key areas for driving sustainable development in Nigeria and Tunisia.
The meeting underscores ongoing efforts by both countries to deepen cooperation and advance shared priorities within the African Union framework.
