Fatima Waziri-Azi, Ph.D has been appointed Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) by President Muhammadu Buhari.
This follows the Hon. Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq’s recommendation that the Ministry “urgently need to intensify existing capacity in the NAPTIP in order to achieve its Key Result Areas as identified.”
Fatima Waziri-Azi was recommended based on her “pedigree, significant experience, and established track record to take the agency ahead and consolidate on what has been accomplished thus far,” she said.
Waziri-Azi is a Women’s Rights advocate, a campaigner against domestic and sexual violence, and an expert in Rule of Law. She is the former Head of Department of Public Law at the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies.
