Kano State has confirmed 227 laboratory-confirmed cases of cholera, with 15 patients currently in critical condition as health authorities intensify efforts to contain the outbreak.
The Director-General, Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC), Prof. Muhammad Adamu Abbas, disclosed this yesterday while briefing journalists in Kano on the state’s response to the outbreak.
Abbas said the affected patients were receiving treatment at designated health facilities across the state, while those in critical condition had been placed under specialised medical care.
“We have confirmed 227 cases of cholera, while 15 patients require specialised medical attention. The remaining patients are receiving appropriate treatment across designated health facilities,” he said.
The KNCDC boss said the agency had activated emergency surveillance, case management and containment measures to prevent further spread of the disease.
According to him, the agency moved swiftly to investigate reports of suspected infections and had intensified monitoring in affected communities.
He urged residents to cooperate with health officials by providing relevant information and adhering to public health guidelines aimed at containing the outbreak.
Abbas also advised members of the public to maintain proper hygiene and seek medical attention immediately whenever symptoms associated with cholera occur.
He specifically urged residents to take anyone suffering from persistent vomiting or diarrhoea to the nearest health facility without delay.
The KNCDC director-general stressed that early diagnosis and prompt treatment remained critical to preventing severe complications and reducing the risk of further transmission.
He assured residents that the state health authorities were closely monitoring the situation and would continue to strengthen response measures until the outbreak was brought under control.
