Abuja — A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted activist and politician Omoyele Sowore bail in the sum of ₦200 million over alleged cybercrime charges, with the court imposing strict conditions for his release.
Justice Mohammed Umar ordered that Sowore provide two sureties in like sum, including a traditional ruler from his community and a property owner in Abuja with verifiable assets.
The court also directed Sowore to deposit his international passport with the court registrar and gave him 24 hours to meet the bail conditions.
In addition, the judge warned him against making statements or publications that could be considered insulting or inciting against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Sowore was previously remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre after the court revoked his earlier bail over alleged violations of its terms.
The charges relate to alleged defamatory publications made on social media concerning the president.
Sowore’s legal team had challenged both the arrest warrant and the revocation of his bail, while the prosecution opposed his release, citing concerns over possible flight risk and repeated violations.l
The court’s ruling follows weeks of legal proceedings between both parties.
Sowore is expected to regain his freedom upon meeting the bail conditions, while the substantive case continues before the court.
