“Don’t Start a Fight You Can’t Finish” — Wike Jabs Makinde at PDP NEC

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Monday took a swipe at Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, warning party members against engaging in political battles they cannot sustain.

Speaking at the 107th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja, Wike dismissed alleged claims by Makinde about meetings involving him and the President, describing them as misleading.

“A fight you cannot fight, don’t start it. Politics is not contract work — they are two different things,” Wike said.

The former Rivers State governor stressed that politics requires strategy, courage and conviction, not opportunism.

“You wanted money; I wanted power. Stay where you are as a contractor,” he added in a pointed remark.

Wike also warned party members ahead of the PDP national convention scheduled for March 29–30, insisting that only committed members should participate.

“After this NEC meeting, anybody that doesn’t show commitment to the convention should not come back later claiming full membership. I will not accept that,” he said.

He, however, called for unity within the party, urging leaders to embrace sincere reconciliation.

“Unity is key. Let reconciliation be genuine,” Wike added.

His remarks come amid rising internal tensions within the PDP as leaders intensify efforts to stabilise the party ahead of its crucial national convention.
