Ebola Alert: FG Tightens Surveillance, Assures Nigerians of Zero Confirmed Case

The Federal Government has assured Nigerians that there is currently no confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the country, even as authorities intensify nationwide emergency preparedness measures to prevent a possible outbreak.

Nigeria’s Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, said the government has strengthened surveillance and rapid response systems following recent Ebola outbreaks reported in parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

According to the minister, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare is working closely with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, Port Health Services, the World Health Organization and other relevant agencies to monitor the situation and boost national readiness.

Pate stated that enhanced surveillance operations, stricter screening at airports and border points, improved laboratory testing capacity, and reinforced infection prevention protocols have already been activated across the country.

He added that public awareness campaigns and community engagement efforts are also being intensified to keep Nigerians informed and vigilant.

The minister urged citizens to remain calm, avoid spreading misinformation, maintain proper hygiene practices, and promptly report any unusual illness to the nearest health facility.

Healthcare workers nationwide have also been directed to strictly observe infection prevention procedures, isolate suspected cases quickly, and report through established public health channels.

Pate reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting public health and ensuring Nigeria remains prepared against any potential Ebola threat.
