ABUJA — Delegates from ECOWAS Member States and Community institutions have convened in Freetown, Sierra Leone, for the 39th meeting of the Administration and Finance Committee (AFC), focusing on financial discipline and institutional performance across the regional bloc.
The meeting, which runs from July 12 to 14, 2026, is examining reports on budget implementation, administration, human resources and finance, as part of efforts to strengthen accountability and efficiency within ECOWAS institutions.
According to a statement issued on Monday, the session is expected to drive reforms aimed at improving the effectiveness of the Community’s programmes and operations across West Africa.
Opening the meeting, Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission, Mrs. Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, described the Community’s Golden Jubilee as a milestone to reflect on achievements while addressing existing challenges and shaping the future of regional integration.
ECOWAS Commissioner for Internal Services, Dr. Habibu Yaya Bappah, commended the committee for its oversight role, noting that its recommendations have contributed to positioning ECOWAS among Africa’s leading regional economic organisations.
Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Komba Momoh, who declared the meeting open, reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to working with Member States and ECOWAS institutions to advance peace, security, sustainable development and regional integration.
The Administration and Finance Committee plays a critical role in scrutinising administrative, financial and budgetary matters to ensure prudent resource management and strengthen institutional accountability across the sub-region.
