The Federal Ministry of Education has appointed veteran broadcast journalist, Ikharo Attah, as Special Adviser on Media and Communication to the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, in a move aimed at strengthening public engagement and improving the communication of ongoing sector reforms.
The appointment, conveyed in a letter dated April 28, 2026, underscores the ministry’s push to enhance transparency and ensure more effective dissemination of its policies and initiatives.
In a statement issued by the Minister’s Special Adviser on Strategy and Implementation, Lanre Lamina, Attah is expected to lead the ministry’s media and communication agenda, including managing media relations and coordinating public messaging.
His role will also cover the supervision of digital and social media platforms, ensuring consistency in communication across channels, and advising on high-level strategies, including crisis communication.
The ministry said the appointment comes at a time when clear and coordinated communication is critical to advancing reforms in Nigeria’s education sector.
Attah brings over two decades of experience in broadcast journalism. He began his career with DBN Television and currently serves as Manager of News and Current Affairs at Independent Television.
“Over the years, he has distinguished himself as a seasoned media professional,” the statement said.
Beyond journalism, Attah has held several public service roles, including serving as Chairman of the FCT Task Force on Traffic Decongestion in 2019 and the FCT Task Force on Enforcement of COVID-19 Protocols in 2020.
He was also appointed Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement in the Federal Capital Territory Administration in November 2021.
The ministry expressed confidence that his extensive experience in media management and public service would strengthen its communication strategy and deepen public engagement as it pursues reforms in the education sector.
