The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged residents to shun division and embrace peace, unity, tolerance and dialogue as Muslims celebrate the 2026 Eid-el-Maulud.
Wike, in a goodwill message issued yesterday, congratulated Muslim faithful in the FCT and across Nigeria on the celebration marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
He said the occasion offered residents an opportunity to reflect on the Prophet’s teachings and virtues of peace, compassion, sacrifice, patience, tolerance and fellowship.
The minister urged residents to demonstrate these values in their everyday lives and make dialogue the preferred means of resolving disputes.
According to him, the FCT was founded on the principles of unity, diversity and tolerance, which residents must continue to uphold.
“The FCT was built on the foundation of unity, diversity, and tolerance for all Nigerians,” Wike said.
He added: “There is the need for us to embrace the true meaning and virtues of sacrifice, patience, tolerance, and fellowship in our daily interactions.”
Wike also assured residents and visitors that the FCT Administration remained committed to maintaining adequate security during the festive period and beyond.
He appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies and report useful information that could help protect their communities and prevent criminal activities.
The minister prayed that the lessons of Eid-el-Maulud would bring peace to Nigerian homes, progress to communities and prosperity to the FCT and the country.
“May the lessons of Eid-el-Maulud bring peace to our homes, progress to our communities, and continued prosperity to the Federal Capital Territory and Nigeria,” he said.
He wished Muslim faithful and all FCT residents a peaceful and successful Eid-el-Maulud celebration.
