The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on the Federal Government and other leaders across the country to move beyond promises and take concrete steps to improve the living conditions of Nigerians.
CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, made the call in his Eid-el-Maulud message to Muslims across Nigeria, urging Nigerians to embrace mercy, compassion, justice and peaceful coexistence.
Okoh congratulated Muslim faithful on the celebration, saying the occasion provides an opportunity to reflect on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad, particularly his concern for the poor and vulnerable, honesty, justice and peaceful coexistence.
He said the values were crucial at a time when Nigerians were grappling with rising living costs, insecurity and other challenges.
“People are tired of promises; they want to see their lives improve,” the CAN president said.
He urged the Federal Government and leaders at all levels to provide greater security, economic relief and leadership that puts the welfare of citizens first.
According to him, “Leadership is not measured by what we promise, but by what Nigerians can see and feel.”
Okoh also warned politicians against exploiting religious and ethnic differences ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that political interests should not be allowed to undermine national unity.
He called on Christians and Muslims to resist attempts by politicians and other interests to divide them, saying both groups have a shared responsibility to protect their communities, care for vulnerable people and promote peace.
The CAN president, however, expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, saying hope must be supported by responsible leadership, good citizenship and justice.
He prayed that the Eid-el-Maulud celebration would renew Nigerians’ commitment to mercy, peace and compassion and inspire the building of a nation where citizens can live with dignity and hope.
He wished Muslim faithful a peaceful Eid-el-Maulud celebration and prayed for God’s blessings upon Nigeria.
