Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to Kenya, Danlami Ibrahim, has presented copies of his Letters of Credence to Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, as he begins his diplomatic duties in the country.
The presentation took place in Mogadishu as part of the formal process for Ibrahim’s concurrent accreditation to Somalia. The engagement also provided an opportunity for both officials to discuss ways of strengthening Nigeria-Somalia relations.
Discussions focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in education, security, trade and investment, diaspora management, culture and the creative
economy, with both sides highlighting the importance of stronger partnerships for regional and economic development.
Minister Abdisalam welcomed the Nigerian envoy and reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to deepening relations and expanding areas of cooperation with Nigeria.
Ibrahim’s accreditation to Somalia forms part of his responsibilities as Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to Kenya with concurrent accreditation to Somalia.
The Nigerian envoy subsequently presented his formal Letters of Credence to Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud at Villa Somalia, alongside other newly accredited ambassadors.
The diplomatic engagement comes as Nigeria continues to strengthen its diplomatic presence and partnerships in the Horn of Africa, while Somalia seeks to expand cooperation with regional and international partners.
The discussions between the two countries are expected to provide a framework for advancing political, economic and people-to-people relations, while creating opportunities for increased cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
