EPL Glory: Atiku Hails Arsenal, Charges Club To Conquer Europe

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has congratulated Arsenal F.C. on winning the English Premier League title, describing the achievement as a triumph of resilience, discipline and long-term planning.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku praised the club’s players, coaching crew and millions of supporters across Nigeria and the world for what he called a historic accomplishment.

According to him, Arsenal’s title-winning campaign reflected the rewards of patience, strategic leadership and consistency — values he said also shaped his approach to public service and economic reform.

“Arsenal’s victory did not happen overnight. It is the product of years of rebuilding, disciplined planning, bold decision-making, and the courage to stay the course even when success seemed distant. These are the same principles that have guided my journey in both public life and the private sector,” he said.

The former presidential candidate noted that his economic vision for Nigeria had always focused on private sector-driven growth, institutional reforms and youth empowerment, stressing that nations, like successful football clubs, thrive when talent is nurtured and innovation encouraged.

“My vision has always been to build an economy that works for all—driven by enterprise, strengthened by institutional reforms, and powered by the energy of our youth. Just as Arsenal invested in youth development and a clear footballing philosophy, Nigeria must invest in its people, reform its institutions, and stay committed to a coherent economic strategy,” he added.

Atiku also commended Nigerian Arsenal fans for their loyalty to the club through difficult periods, describing their support as a reflection of the resilience and hopeful spirit of Nigerians.

Drawing parallels between football success and national development, he urged Nigerians to remain optimistic about the country’s future, insisting that persistence, unity and purposeful leadership could transform the nation.

“Arsenal’s triumph is a powerful reminder that persistence, discipline, and an unwavering belief in one’s mission ultimately produce results. Nigerians should draw inspiration from this moment and remain hopeful that with unity, purpose, and the right leadership, the 2027 election can mark the beginning of a brighter, more prosperous, and more inclusive chapter for our nation,” he stated.

The former Vice President further applauded Arsenal’s leadership for building a cohesive and youthful squad driven by tactical discipline and unity of purpose, noting that such principles were equally essential for national transformation.

Looking ahead, Atiku urged the North London club to channel the same determination into winning the UEFA Champions League.

“Having conquered England, I encourage Arsenal to set their sights firmly on the UEFA Champions League. The spirit, quality, and determination that delivered the Premier League title can certainly secure a historic double. The world is watching, and millions of Nigerians are cheering you on,” he said.

He expressed hope that Arsenal’s success would inspire renewed optimism, unity and belief among Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora.
