PORT HARCOURT — The family of Mr Kamadioye Krama, a father of four, has demanded justice after he was allegedly shot dead by unknown gunmen at a community gathering in Emilaghan, Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Krama was reportedly killed at about 8 p.m. on Friday at a town hall where youths had gathered to arrange canopies ahead of the Saturday coronation of a community stakeholder, identified as Mr ThankGod.
Speaking in a telephone interview, Krama’s elder brother, Monday Krama, said the family was devastated by the incident and urged the authorities to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Monday said his brother had returned from the farm and gone to have his hair cut before proceeding to the town hall, where youths were preparing for the coronation.
“Suddenly, the gunmen came out from nowhere and started shooting. They shot him dead. That is what happened,” he said.
He dismissed reports that the gathering was politically motivated, insisting that his brother had only gone to the venue to watch the youths arrange canopies for the coronation.
“It was not a political gathering. My brother was just there standing and watching as the youths were arranging canopies for the coronation of Mr ThankGod on Saturday,” he said.
According to him, Krama was married and left behind four children following the fatal shooting.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
However, sources said the Divisional Police Officer of the Abua/Odual Police Division and his personnel had visited the scene of the killing.
The family also confirmed that an official complaint had been lodged at the police division, as they await the outcome of the investigation.
The relatives urged the police and other relevant authorities to identify those responsible for the killing and ensure that they face justice.
