The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has debunked reports of an alleged kidnapping incident at Phase 1 Primary School, Gbagalape, Abuja, describing it as a false alarm that triggered panic among students and residents.
In a statement issued on June 4, 2026, the Command said officers of the Nyanya Division responded swiftly after receiving a distress call at about 10:30 a.m. alleging an ongoing abduction at the school.
The Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilised personnel and surveillance teams to the scene, where students were observed running out of the premises shouting “kidnappers,” causing panic within the school community.
According to the police, the school premises were cordoned off and thoroughly searched as part of standard security procedures.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that students had suddenly started shouting ‘kidnappers’ and running out of the school premises, creating panic among teachers and members of the community,” the statement said.
The Command added that extensive searches were conducted within and around the school environment, including nearby hills, boundaries, and adjoining areas, while surrounding schools were also checked as a precaution.
However, police confirmed that no kidnapping incident occurred, no suspect was found, and no victim was identified.
The FCT Police Command therefore urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified reports capable of causing unnecessary panic.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, encouraged residents to promptly report genuine security concerns to the nearest police station or through emergency hotlines provided by the Command.: 08032003913, 07057337653
