Gunmen Kidnap Oyo Headmaster, NUT Demands Urgent Rescue

IBADAN — The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State Wing, has raised alarm over the abduction of a primary school headmaster in Itesiwaju Local Government Area, calling for his immediate rescue.

The victim, Mr. M.K. Owoade, Headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Ogodu, Igbojaye, was reportedly kidnapped on his farmland on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at about 5pm.

In a statement jointly signed by the State Chairman, Comrade Hassan Ajibola Fatai, and the State Secretary, Comrade Salami Olukayode, the union described the incident as disturbing and a reflection of worsening insecurity affecting teachers and education workers.

According to the statement, the abduction was brought to the attention of the state leadership by the NUT Itesiwaju Local Government branch through an urgent notice.

The union called on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the swift rescue of the headmaster and ensure the safety of teachers and citizens across communities.

“This unfortunate incident is a reminder of the growing security challenges facing teachers and education workers across the country,” the union said.

The NUT expressed solidarity with the family, colleagues and pupils of the abducted headmaster, praying for his safe return.

It also urged members to remain vigilant while carrying out their duties, even as it called for stronger measures to protect lives and property.
