ABUJA, Nigeria — The Nigeria Police Force has launched a new mobile application and a nationwide internal communication network aimed at accelerating response times to financial fraud and improving secure coordination among officers.
Unveiled Tuesday at the NPF Conference Centre in Abuja, the digital tools—named the NPF Vigilant App and the NPF–MTN Closed User Group (CUG) Network—mark a significant step toward modernizing police operations across the country.
The NPF Vigilant App, developed by the Force ICT Department alongside financial sector stakeholders, allows citizens to report suspected financial crimes, upload evidence, and track case progress directly from their mobile devices. Simultaneously, the CUG network, built in partnership with MTN Nigeria, provides officers across commands with a dedicated, low-cost platform for instant communication.
Speaking at the launch, Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu emphasized that the platforms are designed to make the force more responsive while maintaining strict standards of data privacy and legal compliance.
“These initiatives represent another practical step in our digital-transformation drive,” Disu said. “Technology remains an enabler of professional policing and must be deployed lawfully, ethically, and responsibly, with due regard for citizens’ rights, privacy, and accountability.”
The initiative brings together key players from Nigeria’s financial and technology sectors, including the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), the Presidential Committee on Economic and Financial Inclusion, financial institutions, fintech companies, Vigilant Technology Limited, and TIMPH International Limited.
Highlighting the practical benefits of the rollout, Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of ICT, DIG Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha, urged the public to actively utilize the new system.
“This demonstrates the Force’s resolve to deploy practical technology-driven solutions that improve service delivery and strengthen public engagement,” Mustapha stated, encouraging Nigerians to download the app on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.Police officials affirmed that the new tools will significantly bolster inter-agency cooperation, secure internal intelligence sharing, and provide a faster, citizens-first approach to combating cybercrime and financial fraud nationwide.
