KATSINA — Operatives of the Katsina State Police Command have arrested a suspected drug trafficker, Ibrahim Usman, and recovered 28 blocks of substances believed to be cannabis during a patrol operation.
The arrest was made on July 20, 2026, along the Mashi–Birnin Kuka border axis following credible intelligence, according to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu.
“Operatives of the Command, while on routine visibility patrol, intercepted and arrested the suspect,” Aliyu said, adding that a search led to the discovery of “twenty-eight blocks of dried leaves strongly suspected to be Cannabis sativa.”
He disclosed that the suspect confessed during interrogation to trafficking the illicit substances for distribution within Katsina State and beyond.
Aliyu said the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue and will be charged to court upon completion.
Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ali Umar Fage, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse.
He warned criminal elements to desist or face the full weight of the law, while also commending residents for their continued support in the fight against crime.
The police said the operation underscores ongoing efforts to curb the circulation of illegal drugs and strengthen security across the state.
