The Federal Government on Tuesday launched a new consumer credit scheme to enable Nigerians acquire laptops, internet-enabled devices and other digital tools through affordable financing as part of efforts to boost digital inclusion and skills development.
The initiative, known as the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D) Programme, is being implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy and the Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme.
The scheme will allow eligible Nigerians to access financing for locally assembled laptops and other essential digital devices while promoting indigenous manufacturing and job creation.
Launching the programme in Abuja, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, described affordable credit as a key driver of digital transformation and economic growth, saying the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of building a $1 trillion economy.
CREDICORP Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Uzoma Nwagba, announced that 1,000 locally assembled laptops would be distributed to qualified beneficiaries nationwide, with the rollout already beginning in Abuja where 77 recipients received their devices.
He said the programme would equip young Nigerians with the tools needed to develop digital skills, access remote work opportunities and participate more actively in the country’s growing digital economy.
