ABUJA, Nigeria —The Federal Government has assured that all outstanding financial obligations to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs up to June 2026 will be settled, in a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic operations.
The assurance was given by the Accountant-General of the Federation, Dr Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, during a meeting with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, in Abuja.
The engagement formed part of efforts to address funding challenges affecting the Ministry and enhance the effective implementation of Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives.
Ogunjimi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing adequate financial support to the Ministry, stressing the importance of timely funding in sustaining Nigeria’s global diplomatic presence.
“All outstanding financial obligations due to the Ministry up to June 2026 will be settled,” he assured.
The meeting followed a courtesy visit by Enikanolaiye, during which both officials reviewed key financial issues impacting the Ministry’s operations and explored measures to improve funding efficiency.
The Minister of State emphasised the need for sustained financial backing to enable the Ministry discharge its constitutional responsibilities effectively, including the management of Nigeria’s foreign missions and international engagements.
The discussions also highlighted the strategic role of adequate funding in strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic influence and advancing its national interests globally.
Both parties expressed commitment to continued collaboration to ensure improved financial management and operational efficiency within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
