FMITI Targets $1trn Economy with 2026 Performance Pact

Abuja, Nigeria — June 25, 2026 — The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI) has signed a 2026 Strategic Performance Contract and adopted a policy communiqué aimed at accelerating Nigeria’s journey toward a $1 trillion economy.

The milestone was reached at the ministry’s Top Management Retreat in Abuja, where ministers, agency heads, and stakeholders aligned strategies to boost industrial growth, expand trade, and attract investments.

Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, said the initiative signals a shift from policy formulation to measurable outcomes.

“This signifies a collective commitment to accountability, results-driven governance, and the delivery of priority initiatives that will strengthen industrial development, boost trade competitiveness and enhance investment inflows,” she said.

The communiqué adopted at the retreat outlines key priorities for 2026, including improving investment facilitation, promoting exports, strengthening MSMEs, and enhancing coordination across agencies.

Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Owan-Enoh, noted that the success of the strategy would be measured by increased productivity, stronger local industries, and higher investor confidence.

Permanent Secretary, Dr. Chris Osa Isokpunwu, emphasised the need for alignment of programmes and budgets with national development goals, stressing performance monitoring and accountability.

The retreat, themed “From Policy to Performance: Driving Industrial Growth, Trade Expansion and Investment Outcomes,” also drew support from development partners such as the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

FMITI said the reforms are designed to deliver tangible outcomes, including job creation, increased exports, establishment of new industries, and improved economic value retention.

The ministry added that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, positioning the industrial and trade sectors as key drivers of inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
