Ibadan, Oyo State — Relief has swept across Oyo State as operatives of the Nigeria Police Force successfully rescued the kidnapped sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, along with her twin sons after a tense three-day ordeal.
The victims — Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul (43) and her 12-year-old twins, Peter and Paul — were freed alive during a late-night operation around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The Shocking Abduction
The family was abducted on Wednesday, June 3, while Mrs. Adegoke John-Paul was driving her children to school along the Challenge–Elewura/Ring Road axis of Ibadan.
Gunmen reportedly ambushed their vehicle in broad daylight, sparking outrage and fear among residents already grappling with rising insecurity.
Swift Police Action
Security operatives launched an intensive manhunt, tracking the kidnappers and executing a coordinated rescue operation that led to the victims’ safe recovery.
While details of possible arrests or confrontation remain sketchy, authorities confirmed that all three victims were rescued unharmed.
Family, Residents Breathe Again
The development has brought immense relief to the Adelabu family, who had earlier appealed for calm and prayers while expressing confidence in security agencies.
Bigger Security Picture
The incident had heightened anxiety in Oyo State, coming on the heels of recent kidnappings, including the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire LGA.
Authorities say efforts remain ongoing to tackle insecurity, including enforcement measures such as restrictions on certain movements and intensified security operations.
For many residents, the successful rescue is a welcome victory — and a sign that swift action can still save lives.
