Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has met with the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, over renewed attacks and rising insecurity in parts of the state.
The meeting followed fresh attacks in Ekiti and Yashikira communities within the last 24 hours.
According to the Kwara State Government, discussions centred on strengthening security and protecting residents from growing threats across the state.
The government disclosed that additional police tactical squads had already been deployed to affected areas to restore peace and tackle criminal elements.
The security meeting came on the heels of Saturday night’s attack on a prayer ground at Ori-Oke Ajaiye in Ekiti Local Government Area, where gunmen reportedly killed three worshippers and abducted 15 others during a night vigil.
Police said the attackers stormed the remote worship centre, shooting sporadically before whisking away several worshippers.
In another incident, suspected bandits launched a midnight attack on Yashikira community in Baruten Local Government Area, targeting both the police divisional headquarters and the palace of the Emir of Yashikira.
During the attack, 10 persons, including wives and children of the traditional ruler, Alhaji Umar Seriki, were abducted, while part of the palace was set ablaze.
The Kwara State Police Command described the incident as a coordinated attack carried out in the early hours of Monday.
Following the attacks, Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, ordered a full-scale security operation involving the military, police, vigilantes and forest guards to rescue the victims and hunt down the attackers.
The police assured residents that security agencies remained battle-ready to confront criminal groups threatening peace in the state.
