Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command, in collaboration with local hunters and other security agencies, have killed three suspected kidnappers and rescued an abducted victim during a gun battle in Otu community in the Oke-Ogun area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
According to the police, the operation followed a distress call from local hunters who came under attack by suspected kidnappers while on a hunting expedition in the area.
A joint security team was immediately mobilised to the scene, where the kidnappers reportedly opened fire on operatives, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
“The criminals were overpowered through superior tactical response and coordinated efforts, leading to the neutralisation of three suspected kidnappers,” the statement said.
The police added that the operation also led to the rescue of one Mosudi Gbolagade, said to have been abducted from Okaka and held captive in Otu.
The victim reportedly sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed for medical treatment.
Security operatives recovered an AK-47 rifle, a single-barrel gun and a machete from the suspects.
One of the local hunters was also injured during the operation and is receiving treatment.
Commending the operatives and local hunters, the Commissioner of Police assured residents of sustained operations against criminal elements across the state.
