Former Gombe State Governor and Senator representing Gombe Central, Muhammad Danjuma Goje, has dismissed reports that he has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring: “I’m fully in APC.”
Goje made the clarification on Saturday evening while addressing his supporters at his residence in Gombe, following widespread speculation over his alleged defection to the opposition party.
The rumours intensified after a video circulated on social media showing Goje alongside FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and former Gombe State Governor and serving Senator, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, who is a prominent PDP leader in the state.
The former governor said his presence with the two politicians should not be interpreted as an indication that he had left the APC.
He, however, disclosed that he was consulting with his supporters and political associates over his future political direction following mounting pressure on him to seek another term in the Senate.
Goje said he had previously announced that he would no longer contest elective positions but was persuaded by his supporters to return to the political arena and contest for the Senate.
“Three months into the current administration in Gombe State over seven years ago, I told everyone at the Pantami Township Stadium that I would not contest any political position again, but you people prevailed on me to contest for the Senate,” he said.
“You bought the form for me and said I shouldn’t come for campaign, you’ll campaign for me, and we won even when I didn’t come out to campaign during the electioneering campaigns. I remain grateful and thank you for your loyalty and believing in me.”
The former governor, who has spent over four decades in politics, said his political career had been marked by consistent electoral victories.
“I have been in politics for over 45 years, contested for elections eight times and won all the elections. The only positions I have not contested in Nigeria is the President of this country or Senate Presidency,” Goje said.
He added that he had occupied several political positions and considered himself privileged to have served the country in various capacities.
Goje urged his supporters to remain calm and loyal to their political movement while he concludes consultations on his next political step.
The clarification came amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several prominent politicians across the country weighing their options and considering new political alliances.
