Abuja, Nigeria — The Fix PDP, Fix Nigeria Group has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) over its early focus on the 2027 general elections, urging the ruling party to prioritise Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and economic hardship.
The group described a recent APC rally in Ebonyi State as insensitive and poorly timed, given the current socio-economic challenges facing the country.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, a frontline member of the group, Chike Uba, said it was disappointing that senior APC leaders were already engaging in political mobilisation while many Nigerians struggle with insecurity and poverty.
“Nigeria is in pain. Citizens are being killed almost daily. Communities are under siege. Farmers cannot safely access their farmlands,” Uba said. “Yet, the APC leadership has chosen this moment to embark on a political carnival for 2027.”
The group noted that insecurity remains widespread, with increasing cases of kidnapping and attacks on communities, leaving many residents in fear.
It also highlighted infrastructure challenges in the South-East, particularly poor federal road networks, which it said have worsened economic conditions and posed risks to lives.
According to the group, citizens in the region require improved security, better infrastructure and people-focused policies rather than early political campaigns.
The group further questioned the participation of the APC National Chairman at the rally, pointing out that his home state of Plateau has continued to experience violent attacks and humanitarian challenges.
“Leadership demands empathy, responsibility and responsiveness to the needs of citizens, not premature political celebrations and endless campaigns,” the statement added.
It called on the ruling party to shift attention to securing lives and property, rebuilding infrastructure, creating jobs and restoring hope among Nigerians.
The group also reiterated support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that consultations were ongoing with stakeholders in Ebonyi State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Uba expressed confidence that voters would prioritise governance, security and economic stability over early political campaigns when the time comes.
