ABUJA, Nigeria — Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Thursday convened a strategic meeting with former Inspectors-General of Police to strengthen ongoing reforms and enhance policing effectiveness in Nigeria.
The high-level session, held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, brought together past police chiefs to provide advisory support and share institutional experience in addressing evolving security challenges.
Among those in attendance were former IGPs Aliyu Attah, Sunday Ehindero, Mike Mbama Okiro, Ogbonna Onovo, Abubakar Ringim, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar, Sulaiman Abba, Usman Alkali Baba and Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
The discussions focused on improving operational effectiveness, deepening intelligence-led policing, strengthening professionalism and sustaining reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.
Participants also examined emerging security threats and explored strategies to enhance coordination, innovation and institutional continuity in policing operations.
Addressing the meeting, Disu commended the former police chiefs for their continued commitment to the Force, noting that their experience remains critical to ongoing reform efforts.
“The wealth of experience accumulated by former Inspectors-General represents an important resource for strengthening the Force and addressing complex security challenges,” he said.
He emphasised that sustainable policing reforms require continuity in leadership, institutional learning and adherence to professional standards.
In their remarks, the former police chiefs pledged continued support for the current leadership and reaffirmed their commitment to offering guidance where necessary.
They also acknowledged ongoing reform initiatives and stressed the need to modernise policing operations, strengthen institutional capacity and build public confidence in law enforcement.
The meeting underscores efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to leverage institutional knowledge in advancing reforms and improving national security outcomes.
