ABUJA, Nigeria — Nigeria’s Ambassador to Qatar, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has formally presented his Letters of Credence to the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, marking the official commencement of his diplomatic mission in Doha.
The presentation ceremony took place at the Amiri Diwan on Thursday and featured full diplomatic honours, including the inspection of the Guard of Honour, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.
Following the ceremony, Ambassador Yakubu held a private audience with the Amir, who reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Nigeria.
The Amir referenced previous high-level engagements between both countries and expressed readiness to deepen cooperation.
Ambassador Yakubu conveyed the goodwill message of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Qatari leader and people, reiterating Nigeria’s commitment to enhancing longstanding diplomatic ties.
He also extended condolences to the Amir over the recent accident at Ras Laffan Industrial City.
“We remain committed to strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Nigeria and Qatar,” Yakubu said, while highlighting the need to deepen collaboration in trade, investment, education, security and humanitarian affairs.
Both sides underscored the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement in advancing mutual interests and strengthening bilateral cooperation.
