Abuja, June 10, 2026 — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced June 16 to June 25, 2026, as the official dates for political parties to conduct primaries in newly restored constituencies across Benue, Delta, Jigawa, and Kogi States ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The decision was disclosed in a press statement signed by National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.
According to the Commission, the move follows court judgments directing the restoration of previously suppressed constituencies, in line with provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the Electoral Act, 2026.
INEC confirmed that several constituencies have been reinstated, including Nyamatsor, Ukum Afia, Konshisha III, Makurdi III, and Gboko III in Benue State; Aniocha North II, Ika North East II, Sapele II, Ethiope West II, Warri South West II, and Warri North II in Delta State.
In Jigawa State, Aujara State Constituency has been restored, while Kogi State will see multiple constituencies reinstated, including Adavi East, Ajaokuta North, Dekina Town & District, Kabba-Bunu II, and Ogugu, among others.
INEC stated that the scheduled primaries are aimed at enabling political parties to nominate candidates for the restored constituencies in preparation for the 2027 elections.
The Commission emphasized that all existing timelines and guidelines contained in the previously published election timetable remain applicable to the affected constituencies.
Political parties have also been directed to formally notify the Commission ahead of their primaries, given the specific arrangements surrounding the restored constituencies.
INEC reiterated its commitment to conducting credible, inclusive, and transparent elections across the country.
