Port Harcourt, Nigeria – Hundreds of pupils in Rivers State were introduced to aviation and military aircraft operations as the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), in collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), marked the 2026 Children’s Day with an educational outreach at the NAF Base, Port Harcourt.
The initiative, themed “Inspiring Dreams, Building Futures,” brought together students from public, private, and community schools across the state for a hands-on experience designed to spark interest in aviation and security careers.
Participants were taken on guided tours of the Air Force Base, where they observed aircraft operations and gained first-hand insight into aviation activities. The event also featured lectures, drama presentations, quiz competitions, and sessions on child safety awareness.
Chairman of the PCRC in Rivers State, Dr. Voke Emore, said the programme was aimed at broadening the horizons of young learners and steering them away from social vices by exposing them to meaningful career opportunities.
According to him, early engagement and mentorship are critical in shaping the ambitions of children and helping them make informed decisions about their future.
He disclosed that more than 20 schools took part in the exercise, including the Air Force Secondary School and several government and community institutions from different parts of the state.
The collaboration between PCRC and the Nigerian Air Force underscores ongoing efforts to strengthen community relations while investing in youth development through education, awareness, and career guidance.
Stakeholders at the event expressed optimism that such initiatives would nurture future professionals in aviation and security, while promoting discipline, patriotism, and civic responsibility among young Nigerians.
