Kidnapped Oyo Farmer Freed as Police Tighten Noose

IBADAN — The Oyo State Police Command has secured the safe release of a kidnapped farmer, Mr. Owoade Mathew, following sustained pressure on his abductors after a coordinated security operation.

Mathew was abducted on July 12, 2026, along the Igbojaye–Budo Aare bush road, sparking swift intervention by security operatives.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the victim regained his freedom on the evening of July 13 after intense operational pressure forced the kidnappers to abandon him.

“The intense operational pressure mounted on the abductors forced the hoodlums to abandon the victim,” the statement said.

The police confirmed that the victim has been taken to a medical facility for evaluation and treatment, and will be debriefed as part of ongoing investigations to track down those responsible.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, commended the collaboration between security agencies and the public, assuring residents of continued efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

“The Command remains resolute in its commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that criminal elements have no safe haven,” the police said.
