Nigeria @66: Tinubu Unveils Mega Agri-Drive to Slash Living Costs, Power Local Markets

HARD-PRESSED families are set for real relief at the checkout as President Tinubu vows to drastically cut the cost of living by overhaul of Nigeria’s food and transport sectors.

Acknowledging the extreme hardships millions of citizens face daily over food, healthcare, and basic bills, the President outlined a massive push to boost domestic farming and eliminate supply-chain bottlenecks.

Instead of hand-outs, the government’s target is to bring down actual production costs so savings trickle straight down into local market prices.

“When a farmer produces more cheaply, when fewer crops are lost, and when a truck reaches its destination faster, all those savings will ultimately find their way into the price of goods,” Tinubu explained.

The blueprint to tackle rising living costs includes:

* Mechanised Farming: Expanding dry-season farming, heavy irrigation, and direct access to cheap seeds and fertilizers.

* Infrastructure Boost: Finishing vital roads, railways, and ports connecting farms directly to inner-city markets.

* Social Safety Net: Strengthening direct cash transfers and expanding the National Social Register for the poorest households.

Tinubu reassured vulnerable families that while long-term growth is taking root, immediate direct support programmes will serve as a vital bridge out of poverty.
