Nigeria has condemned fresh Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia that injured civilians and damaged civil infrastructure, warning that the escalation poses a wider threat to Middle East stability and global energy supplies.
The attacks, launched by the Houthi militia in Yemen on Monday, September 7, 2026, have drawn strong concern from the Federal Government, which urged all parties to exercise restraint and avoid further actions that could worsen the situation.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, September 8, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Oluwafemi Adeniyi said Nigeria regarded the renewed hostilities as a serious threat to Saudi Arabia’s security and sovereignty as well as to regional stability.
“Nigeria regards the fresh hostilities as serious threat not only to the security and sovereignty of Saudi Arabia but also to regional stability in the Middle East,” the ministry stated.
The Federal Government called on all parties to uphold international law and refrain from actions that could escalate the conflict, endanger civilian lives or undermine regional security.
Nigeria also warned that continued instability could further disrupt the flow of “much-needed global energy supplies”, highlighting the potential consequences of the conflict beyond the immediate region.
The government expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia, saying it stood with the country’s government and people during the latest escalation and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
Nigeria further reaffirmed its commitment to supporting peace processes and conciliatory frameworks aimed at promoting regional peace, international security and stability.
The Federal Government said such efforts remained important to advancing shared prosperity and development, as it urged continued diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation.
