Nigeria Confirmed as Host for 2026 CAF Awards and General Assembly

Nigeria has been officially confirmed as the host nation for the 2026 CAF Awards and the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the country’s bid following a meeting with CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe at the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya.

The announcement was made by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Tuesday, May 13, 2026. The events are expected to take place in October (General Assembly) and later in the year (Awards Ceremony).

In a statement, the NFF revealed that President Tinubu gave his approval to host both prestigious events, marking a significant boost for Nigerian football on the continental stage. Nigeria last hosted the CAF Awards in 2017.

The development is expected to showcase Nigeria’s growing influence in African football administration and provide a major platform for the country’s football stars, including the likes of Victor Osimhen, to be recognised on home soil.

Hosting the awards and general assembly is also anticipated to boost sports tourism, create economic opportunities, and further strengthen Nigeria’s position within the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The NFF is expected to begin preparations for the high-profile events, which will bring together football leaders, players, and stakeholders from across Africa’s 54 member associations.

This is a major diplomatic and sporting win for Nigeria. Successfully hosting these events could help restore confidence in the country’s ability to organise large-scale international football gatherings after years of mixed results.

More details regarding the exact host cities (Abuja or Lagos) and specific dates are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
