Nigeria Moves to Replenish Technical Cooperation Fund After $25m Depletion

The Federal Government has pledged to replenish Nigeria’s Technical Cooperation Fund following the full utilisation of its initial $25 million allocation, in a move aimed at sustaining the country’s development support programmes across Africa and other developing regions.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on July 31, 2026 and signed by its Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, following a meeting between the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, and the Director-General of the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA), Col. Garba Moyi Isa (Rtd).

According to the statement, the Director-General briefed the Minister on the Directorate’s operations and challenges, noting that the Nigerian Technical Cooperation Fund, which supports technical assistance programmes, has been fully exhausted.

“The original US$25 million Nigerian Technical Cooperation Fund has been fully utilised, underscoring the urgent need to replenish it to sustain Nigeria’s technical assistance programmes across Africa and the wider developing world,” the statement said.

Discussions during the meeting also focused on key operational issues, including the implementation of the Directorate’s Establishment Act, budgetary constraints, inadequate operational vehicles, office accommodation, and critical infrastructure needs.

In response, Enikanolaiye assured that the concerns would be escalated to relevant authorities for action, pledging support for increased funding, improved budgetary allocations, and enhanced institutional capacity.

He also committed to strengthening the Directorate’s visibility within Nigeria’s foreign policy framework and deepening partnerships with regional and international development institutions.

“The Federal Government remains committed to advancing Nigeria’s strategic interests through technical cooperation and development diplomacy,” the statement added.

The Director-General expressed appreciation for the Minister’s assurances, reaffirming the Directorate’s commitment to promoting Nigeria’s leadership role in Africa through impactful technical cooperation programmes.
