Nigeria Congratulates Colombia’s President-Elect, Pledges Stronger Ties

The Federal Government of Nigeria has congratulated Abelardo de la Espriella on his election as President of Colombia, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations ahead of his inauguration on August 7.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on July 31, 2026 and signed by its Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, noting that Nigeria looks forward to working closely with the incoming Colombian administration.

According to the statement, Nigeria described the outcome of the election as a reflection of the democratic will of the Colombian people and expressed optimism about future cooperation between both nations.

“Nigeria and Colombia share a steadfast commitment to democracy, peace, and sustainable development,” the statement said, adding that the Federal Government is ready to deepen ties in key areas including trade, investment, security, and South-South cooperation.

The government also expressed confidence that under de la Espriella’s leadership, relations between the two countries would continue to grow for the mutual benefit of their citizens.

Nigeria further wished the President-elect success as he prepares to assume office, expressing hope that his administration would advance peace, progress and prosperity in Colombia.
