The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding Nigeria’s gas infrastructure as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commissioned a high-capacity Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Daughter Booster Station in Jahi, Abuja.
The project, developed by Rolling Energy Limited in partnership with the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF), is part of ongoing efforts to deepen gas utilisation under the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas Initiative.
President Tinubu, represented by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, described the facility as a major milestone in Nigeria’s transition to cleaner, more affordable and sustainable energy.
Speaking at the event, the Authority Chief Executive of NMDPRA, Mallam Rabiu Umar, represented by the Abuja Regional Coordinator, Hajiya Maijidda Abdulkadir, said the Authority remains focused on ensuring effective regulation, safety and compliance in the country’s growing gas sector.
He said the project reflects the regulator’s broader mandate to support infrastructure development that enhances energy access and strengthens supply networks.
The Jahi facility is one of four MDGIF-backed projects commissioned across the country, alongside installations in Ojota, Lagos, by IBILE Oil and Gas and Portland Energy, and another at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, by FEMADEC Energy.
Executive Director of MDGIF, Mr Oluwole Adama, represented by Dr Hussaini Basaka, said the fund is committed to supporting investments that drive economic growth and expand gas utilisation nationwide.
Chairman of Rolling Energy Limited, Mr Mubarak Umar Dambata, said the station has a capacity of 1,000 standard cubic metres per hour and can serve over 1,000 CNG vehicles and about 100 trucks daily.
The Executive Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on CNG and Electric Vehicles, Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed, said the project aligns with efforts to reduce reliance on conventional fuels through cleaner alternatives.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Mr Sunday Dare, said the commissioning is part of 25 projects rolled out nationwide to mark the administration’s third anniversary, with several focused on gas infrastructure.
