No Endorsement, No Presidential Ambition — Wike Blows Hot

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike, has firmly denied endorsing any political aspirant, warning politicians against peddling false claims to gain advantage.

Speaking during a media chat at his official residence in Abuja on April 4, 2026, Wike described reports linking him to endorsements as misleading and self-serving.

“I have not endorsed anybody,” he declared. “Those claiming so are doing it for their own purposes. Leaders will sit and decide collectively to avoid repeating past mistakes.”

The outspoken minister insisted that candidate selection must be based on wide consultations among party stakeholders, not individual assertions or propaganda.

Wike also dismissed speculations about his presidential ambition, making it clear he is not in the race.

“I am not running for president. If I wanted to, I would say so. I will not deceive Nigerians,” he said.

He warned against what he termed “politics of manipulation,” where individuals falsely claim backing to boost their chances, stressing that electoral success depends on credibility, structure and genuine support.

Wike urged political actors to focus on building strong foundations rather than relying on endorsements that do not exist.
