ABUJA, Nigeria — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says Nigeria is witnessing an unprecedented scale of infrastructure development, with more than 2,700 kilometres of highways and major roads currently under construction, rehabilitation, or completion across the country.
In his third anniversary address, the president said key national projects are now advancing simultaneously, aimed at improving transportation, boosting trade, and connecting regional economies.
He listed major ongoing road projects to include the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway, Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Road, the East–West Road, and several rural access roads.
“Significant sections are already completed or nearing completion, improving transportation, reducing travel time, boosting regional trade, and creating thousands of jobs,” Tinubu said.
Rail Modernisation Expands National Connectivity
Tinubu also highlighted ongoing rail modernisation projects designed to strengthen logistics and economic integration across the federation. According to him, the rail investments are part of a broader strategy to reduce transportation costs and improve movement of goods and passengers nationwide.
He said the combined road and rail expansion is central to his administration’s economic transformation agenda, supporting industrial growth and easing pressure on existing transport corridors.
Job Creation and Economic Impact
The president noted that infrastructure projects are also generating employment opportunities across construction, engineering, and logistics sectors, while stimulating local economies in host communities.
He added that improved transport networks are expected to reduce business costs, enhance food distribution, and support agricultural value chains across the country.
Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustained investment in infrastructure, describing it as essential to long-term economic competitiveness and national development.
