Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has said the National Convention of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will demonstrate the party’s continued relevance and readiness to reclaim its political footing.
Wike, who spoke after inspecting the convention venue in Abuja and hosting party stakeholders ahead of the exercise, expressed confidence that the gathering would reassure Nigerians and the international community of the PDP’s stability and prospects.
More than 2,000 delegates drawn from the 36 states of the federation are expected to converge on the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium for the convention.
The minister said arrangements for the exercise had been concluded, noting that the level of organisation would reflect the party’s preparedness for future political contests.
“For me, this is a job well done. What you see here is proper arrangement,” he said. “Nigerians will be satisfied with what they will witness, and it will serve as a testimony that the PDP is repositioning itself.”
He added that the convention would project a sense of unity and commitment within the party. “It will give the impression that we are prepared for the future. I commend all those who have contributed their efforts to ensure the success of this convention,” he stated.
On security, Wike assured that adequate measures had been put in place to guarantee a peaceful exercise, noting the visible presence of security personnel at the venue.
“As you come in, you can observe the presence of security operatives, which indicates that necessary steps have been taken. We are determined to organise a hitch-free convention,” he said.
He also cautioned against any attempt to disrupt the proceedings, stressing that security agencies were prepared to address potential challenges.
The minister urged delegates to conduct themselves in an orderly manner and support the organising committees to ensure the success of the convention.
