In the wake of the deadly attack in Plateau State, the Federal Government has vowed that Nigeria will not bow to criminal elements, stressing its commitment to protecting lives and restoring lasting peace.
The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made the declaration on Tuesday during a press briefing in Abuja, highlighting the swift response by security agencies to the Angwan Rukuba, Jos North attack.
“Nigeria will not yield to criminal elements. We will protect our people, and we will prevail,” Idris said, urging citizens not to allow violence to divide communities and affirming that national unity remains strong.
Condolences were extended to the families of the victims, and the minister assured that troops under Operation Enduring Peace, alongside military and police units, were immediately deployed to secure the area and track down perpetrators. “These swift actions ensured that the situation was quickly contained and prevented further escalation,” he added.
Idris noted that ongoing military and intelligence-led operations, supported by increased surveillance, joint patrols, and troop deployments, aim to prevent further attacks and maintain stability across Plateau and the wider North-Central region.
The Minister also revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reviewed the situation with top security chiefs and that Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has been invited for further consultations to ensure a coordinated response.
Acknowledging the state government’s 48-hour curfew in Jos North, Idris stressed the close collaboration between federal and state authorities to prevent reprisals, restore calm, and facilitate investigations.
“While the attack is deeply regrettable, it does not signal a breakdown of national security. It is a criminal act being actively addressed,” Idris emphasized. “There will be no safe haven for criminal elements anywhere in Nigeria.”
He urged citizens to remain calm, law-abiding, and cautious against unverified information that could worsen tensions, assuring that the Federal Government remains committed to intelligence-led operations, operational readiness, and inter-agency coordination to safeguard peace nationwide.
