Lagos, Nigeria — June 24, 2026 — The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and arraigned a suspect, Emeka Joseph, in connection with a domestic violence case that gained attention following a viral video alleging the assault of Ezeka Chisom.
Police said preliminary investigations confirmed that the victim, who had been cohabiting with the suspect, was assaulted and sustained injuries to her face.
“The victim was assaulted by the suspect, with whom she had been cohabiting,” the Command stated, adding that the suspect has been charged to court and remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.
The case has been adjourned until August 3, 2026, for further proceedings.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the Command’s stance against abuse and violence.
“The Lagos State Police Command maintains zero tolerance for all forms of domestic violence. Cases involving violence and abuse will continue to receive prompt attention,” he said.
He urged residents to promptly report incidents of domestic violence and other criminal activities to the nearest police station.
The development underscores growing concerns over domestic violence in Nigeria, as authorities continue to encourage victims and witnesses to speak out and seek help.
