TCN Restores Alaoji–Owerri 132kV Lines After Outage

Abuja, Nigeria — The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has restored the Alaoji–Owerri 132kV Transmission Lines 1 and 2 to full operation following a temporary outage that disrupted electricity supply to parts of the South-East and South-South.

In a statement signed by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the company said the two transmission lines were successfully energised at 7:05 p.m. and 7:06 p.m., respectively, after emergency repair works were completed.

The lines had tripped on Tuesday, June 23, prompting immediate deployment of maintenance crews to identify and fix the fault.

According to the statement, Line 1 was initially restored at about 7:25 p.m. on Tuesday, enabling partial electricity supply to Imo State, Bayelsa State (Yenagoa), and parts of Rivers State, including Ahoada.

TCN explained that Line 1 was subsequently de-energised to allow safe repair of Line 2 due to the close proximity of the two high-voltage lines.

“This was necessary because electromagnetic induction from an energised line could pose a safety risk to maintenance personnel working on the adjacent faulty line,” the statement said.

The temporary shutdown was approved by the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) and carried out with the concurrence of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) and the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC).

With both lines now restored, TCN confirmed that the Alaoji–Owerri transmission corridor is fully operational, enabling distribution companies to take full load for supply to customers.

The company appreciated affected consumers for their patience during the outage and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a reliable and efficient national transmission network.
