LAGOS — The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered illegal firearms in separate operations in Ozoro and Ughelli, as part of efforts to curb crime in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the arrests were made during intelligence-led operations by officers of the Ozoro and Agbor divisions.
Edafe said that on July 25, 2026, operatives of the Ozoro Division, while on routine patrol along Alaka Road, intercepted a 25-year-old suspect, Yakubu Musa, who was found carrying roofing sheets suspected to have been stolen.
“When interrogated, the suspect could not give a satisfactory account of the items in his possession, prompting further investigation,” he said.
“A subsequent search of his residence led to the recovery of one cut-to-size single-barrel gun. The suspect is in custody, while investigation is ongoing.”
In a separate operation on July 24, 2026, the police spokesperson said operatives of the Agbor Division, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Sunday Anaboro, 40, in Agbor.
“A search carried out on the suspect led to the recovery of one Beretta pistol concealed in a sack,” Edafe said, adding that the suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
The police described the operations as part of ongoing measures to tackle the proliferation of illegal arms and enhance security across Delta State.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the officers for their vigilance and professionalism.
“The command remains resolute in its efforts to rid the state of illegal firearms and other dangerous instruments of crime,” Oyeniyi said, urging residents to provide credible and timely information to support policing efforts.
