• Suspects caught allegedly stealing armoured cables, streetlight components
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested 10 suspected vandals during separate operations in Kubwa, Wuye and the National Mosque area of Abuja.
The suspects were apprehended while allegedly vandalising armoured cables and solar-powered streetlight infrastructure, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.
Adeh said the arrests were part of intensified efforts by the command to protect critical public infrastructure and curb vandalism across the FCT.
She said a patrol team from Kubwa Division, while conducting routine patrol around Bazango-Kubwa at about 6:00pm on September 2, 2026, sighted five persons allegedly vandalising armoured cables.
The suspects were identified as Goodname Oriarebun, 29; Timothy Donald, 28; Ayo Buli, 26; Emmanuel Elijah, 28; and Christian David, 28.
The command said Oriarebun was from Gishiri, Mabushi; Donald from Arab Road, Kubwa; Buli from Gishiri, Mabushi; Elijah from Shelter Farm, Byazhin, Kubwa; and David from Kabba, Kagini, Abuja.
In another operation, police operatives from Wuye Division arrested Moses Luka, who was allegedly caught digging out armoured cables along the road linking Magic Land and the National Stadium.
Similarly, a surveillance team from Wuse Division arrested four other suspects around the National Mosque after they allegedly cut down a solar-powered streetlight and attempted to remove its components.
The suspects were identified as Musa Abdullahi, Suleiman Idris, Aliyu Isa and Muhammed Abdulrahman.
Adeh said investigations were ongoing to uncover other members of the suspected vandalism syndicates, including those allegedly involved in receiving stolen public infrastructure.
“All suspects remain in Police custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, commended the operatives for their vigilance and timely intervention in protecting public infrastructure across the Federal Capital Territory.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible information that could assist in preventing vandalism and other crimes in the territory.
