Politics Must Serve the People, Not a Few,” Kachikwu Vows Issue-Driven Campaign Ahead of 2027

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dumebi Kachikwu, has pledged to run an issue-based campaign focused on national unity, economic recovery, and inclusive governance as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.

Kachikwu made the commitment while speaking at the party’s convention in Abuja, where he described Nigeria as being at a critical juncture requiring bold and responsible leadership.

“For too long, politics has benefited only a few while the majority of Nigerians continue to suffer. That must change,” Kachikwu said.

He expressed gratitude to party leaders, delegates, and supporters for the confidence reposed in him, describing his emergence as both a call to service and a national responsibility.

The ADC candidate stressed that leadership must be anchored on accountability, competence, and service to the people rather than personal ambition or political patronage.

According to him, elections should be driven by ideas and practical solutions to national challenges, including insecurity, unemployment, economic hardship, and social division.

Kachikwu also challenged political actors to present clear and actionable economic plans, particularly in areas such as industrial growth, job creation, and sustainable development.

He emphasised the need for inclusive governance, calling for greater participation of women and youths in leadership, noting that national development cannot be achieved while key segments of the population are excluded.

He urged Nigerians to remain hopeful, assuring that responsible leadership and collective commitment could reposition the country for stability and growth.

In a related remark, the National Chairman of the ADC, Abdulkadir Mohammed Bashir, called for strict adherence to the party’s constitution and democratic principles, especially amid internal disagreements.

Bashir warned against actions driven by selfish interests, noting that injustice within political organisations often leads to division and weakens party structures.

He reaffirmed the ADC’s commitment to providing constructive opposition and urged aggrieved members to work together to strengthen the party ahead of future elections.

Also speaking, Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Kingsley Ogga, described the convention as a defining moment, saying it symbolised resilience, unity, and renewed hope for the party.
