The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme Border Command, has recorded a massive revenue haul of N9.798 billion while cracking down on smugglers with the seizure of 1,000 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, banned pharmaceuticals and other contraband items.
The Customs Area Controller, Abdullahi Kaila, disclosed this during his maiden press briefing in Lagos on Monday.
According to him, the Command generated N9,798,938,969 between March 2026 and now — a sharp rise from the N2.1 billion collected during the same period in 2025.
Kaila described the feat as a staggering 448 per cent increase, crediting it to tighter compliance measures, stronger stakeholder cooperation and improved anti-smuggling operations powered by the B’Odogwu Unified Customs system.
In a major anti-drug operation, the Command intercepted 1,000 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, which will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and prosecution.
Customs also seized large quantities of unregistered and suspected dangerous pharmaceutical products, including codeine syrup and several sexual enhancement drugs not approved by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.
Among the confiscated items were cartons of Sildenafil Citrate products branded as “Super Sexy,” “Machine Man,” and “Ultimate Plus Maca,” alongside packs of herbal mixtures and painkillers.
The Command further intercepted 2,000 bags of foreign rice, 340 kegs of vegetable oil, 103 kegs of petrol, 993 cartons of spaghetti and 250 bales of used clothes with a Duty Paid Value of over N501 million.
Kaila warned smugglers that the Seme border would no longer be a safe route for illegal trade, stressing that surveillance and intelligence operations had been strengthened across land and sea borders.
He urged legitimate traders to embrace lawful business channels, assuring them of smoother and faster trade processes through Customs’ trade facilitation platforms.
The Customs boss also praised officers of the Seme Command for their dedication and resilience, while commending border communities and stakeholders for supporting the anti-smuggling war.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service under the leadership of Bashir Adewale Adeniyi to revenue generation, border security and economic growth.
