ABUJA — Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, Ambassador Ahmed Olatunji Sulu-Gambari, has formally presented his Letters of Credence to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, marking the official commencement of his diplomatic mission.
The ceremony took place on July 14, 2026, at the Singgahsana Kecil, Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur, with full ceremonial honours, including a General Salute mounted by the Royal Guard.
According to a statement signed by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the presentation underscored Malaysia’s recognition of Nigeria’s diplomatic representation and the importance of bilateral relations between both countries.
During the audience, Sulu-Gambari conveyed the goodwill of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Malaysian monarch and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening longstanding ties with Malaysia.
“Nigeria remains committed to further deepening the cordial relations between our two countries,” the envoy stated.
In his remarks, Sultan Ibrahim recalled his longstanding interactions with Nigerians and highlighted the strong bonds of friendship and mutual respect between both nations.
The monarch also expressed interest in visiting Nigeria, signalling growing confidence in the bilateral relationship.
A notable moment during the ceremony was the admiration expressed by the King for the envoy’s traditional Nigerian attire, which opened discussions on cultural diplomacy and people-to-people exchanges.
Sulu-Gambari assured that efforts would be made to translate such engagements into concrete programmes to enhance cultural cooperation.
The Malaysian monarch congratulated the Nigerian envoy on his appointment and wished him a successful and productive tenure.
